A corselet (also spelled corselette) is a one-piece foundation garment that joins a bra to a corset- or girdle-like body, often finished with garters for stockings. A corset is the boned, structured piece that shapes the waist, traditionally laced. A bustier is shorter, shaped around the bust, and stops near the waist or ribs. If you searched "corselette vs corset" because a product listing confused you, that is the short answer.
Corselet vs corset vs bustier, one at a time
The corselet is underwear first. It does the job of a bra and a shaper in one piece, running from the bust down over the torso, and the garter tabs are its giveaway. You wear it under clothes, or under a sheer layer if you want it seen. Its point is all-in-one smoothing, not a dramatic waist.
The corset is about the waist. Vertical boning and a closure, laced or hooked, let it pull in and hold the midsection, and it may or may not cover the bust. A true shaping corset sits close and firm. A fashion corset uses the same vocabulary more gently, so you can still eat dinner in it.
The bustier is the short, bust-focused cousin. It is boned and fitted like a corset, but its structure is built around the bust and it usually ends at the ribs or the natural waist. Today it is mostly worn as a top.
A corset top is the fashion version of all of the above: a top that borrows boning and shaping and is made to be seen. Most of what you see on the street, and most of what we stock, falls here.
1JINN STUDIO's Dual-Layer Suede Lace-Up Bustie Corset shows how blurry the line has become. It is cut as a structured bustier, but the lace-up detailing and cutout threading come straight from corsetry, and the suede-like outer layer over a tonal inner layer gives it the depth of a top meant to be worn on show. It comes in brown, black, khaki and gray, sizes XS to L. The rest of the label's lineup is in the 1JINN STUDIO collection.

Why "corselet" now often means corset top
In everyday shopping, "corselet" has drifted. Plenty of people now use it loosely for any structured corset top, which is why a search for the word turns up bustiers and boned camis as often as shapewear. There is a second reason the word appears on our site: CORSELET is also the name of a corset-top label we carry. Its pieces, such as the Sheer Lace Boned Bustier with its painterly ink-landscape print or the Leopard Coated Corset Top with its sculpted bustier shape, are fashion tops rather than all-in-one foundation garments. Browse the CORSELET collection, or read our CORSELET brand guide to see how the label approaches structure.
Which one should you choose?
Start with where it goes. If it lives under your clothes and has to smooth everything in one layer, you want a true corselet. If it is the outfit, you want a corset top or bustier.
Then think about support. A bustier or corset top with real cup structure can stand in for a bra; a strapless tube style relies on a close fit at the top edge to stay up. OAKMOO's White Lace Corset Tube Top is a good example of the strapless approach: a bandeau silhouette in rose-inspired lace with a structured, body-hugging shape, made to be worn alone or under a blazer. It comes in sizes XS to M. More from the label is in the OAKMOO collection.

Fabric changes the mood more than the cut does. Lace and mesh lean romantic and lingerie-adjacent. Suede effects and coated finishes look tougher. Denim makes a corset feel like daywear: LACEMADE's Denim Knight Structured French Denim Corset has long sleeves, a waist-defining fit and visible boning, and it works with skirts, trousers or a full denim-on-denim look. The LACEMADE collection also carries corset dresses and two-piece sets.

For softer structure, VIA PITTI's Halter Ruched Corset Crop Top gets its shape from ruching at the bust, a fitted waist and a peplum hem with lace trim. It is an easy first corset top for summer outings and dinners.
Boning and closures, briefly
Boning is the vertical support stitched into channels. Fashion corset tops often use flexible boning, sometimes called fishbone, which shapes gently and moves with you. Firmer boning holds a harder line and does more actual shaping. Closures matter just as much. Lacing lets you fine-tune the fit, which is why lace-up styles forgive small sizing errors. Hook-and-eye closures, like the front hooks on 1JINN STUDIO's Suede-Effect Lace-Up Belt Corset, are quicker to put on but less adjustable.
How to size a corset top
Measure with the tape snug but not tight. Take your bust at its fullest point and your waist at its narrowest, then compare both numbers against the size guide for the piece you want. If they land in different sizes, follow the bust for strapless and tube styles, since that edge has to hold the garment up, and follow the waist for lace-up styles, since lacing can adjust above it. Some labels size by cup as well: CORSELET offers its tops in A/B Cup and C/D Cup versions, so choose the cup first, then the size. For outfit ideas once it fits, see how to style a corset.
Whichever word you searched, the best piece is the one built for how you will actually wear it. New structured tops land regularly in our new arrivals.
